Week One
Throughout the next 6 weeks we are going to be learning about different countries in the world. Each week we will learn about a new country.
Week One: United States of America
Monday:
1. Where is the USA on a map?
2. Learn where all the states are.
Watch Fifty Nifty United States Video
3. What is your favorite state?
Homework: Color flag of USA and think about your favorite state.
Tuesday:
1. What is your favorite state?
2. Project: Make a poster board of your favorite state.
On your poster, include interesting facts about your state (when it became a state, state bird, motto, location, etc.) Make sure to also include pictures!
Wednesday:
1. Work on your posters
2. Important Symbols of the USA:
Go on the computers and click on the link below:
Symbols of the USA
Pick one symbol from the list on the website.
Do some research about the monuments of your choice and write a paragraph about what you have learned.
Thursday:
1. Use Google Earth to find your house, school, and one of your favorite places.
2. Work on posters
Friday:
1. Presentations!
Present your poster to the class.

2. Journey through France:
Click on the link below to learn all about France. Feel free to explore the entire site. Make sure to write down important facts and interesting things.

Form groups of 2-3
Construct a tower using popsicle sticks and toothpicks!
Wednesday:
1. Show and Tell
We will have a student bring something from home (from France) to share with the class!

Homework: Write a paragraph or two about your tower that you have constructed. Include what kind of tower it is, what people do in the tower (tourist attraction? business building? etc.) and what country it should belong in.
Friday:
1. Present your groups tower to the class. Be sure to tell them what your tower signifies.

2. Interview each other about their ethnicities
3. Discuss what you have learned about different cultures
4. Write a paragraph about what you have learned
Homework: Take a digital camera and take pictures of cultural items around town and/or at home
Tuesday: Final Project
1. Upload pictures to computer and store in your own file
2. Print the ones you need for your project
3. Take pictures and cut and paste them to giant map
4. Pictures correspond to the country the cultural object came from
Wednesday: Presentation
1. Present your pictures and where they are from
2. Explain why you put the picture where you did
Homework: Think about what you have learned overall. How other cultures are similar and different from yours
Thursday: Essay
1. Write a paragraph about how other cultures tie into yours and how they are different
2. Homework: Bring a food from the country of your choice
Friday: Fiesta
1. Watch a video on different cultures
2. Video: It's A Small World
